Hópbílar hf. have resolved to be in the group of companies that are in the forefront of environmental concerns. To this effect the company have adopted a certificated environmental management system that conforms to ISO-14001 standards. These standards are today an integral part of the management of the company.

The company is the first and only ones in Iceland providing passenger transport services which have received this international certification. Hópbílar hf. is the recipient of the Conch Shell environment award, presented by the Ministry for the Environment. In order to ensure systematic monitoring of the companies’ largest environmental factor, the use of diesel fuel, electronic registration was installed during the year – and pumping equipment. About 90% of all refills take place on company premises. The companies’ environmental policy has been reviewed and the decision taken to make no changes in the former statement as all factors are covered well and validly.

In the year 2001, the owners of Hópbílar decided to implement an environmental management system according to ISO 14001 status and requirements. Only three companies in Iceland have already implemented this kind of system, as it is a very large undertaking in general. In accordance with this requirement, all our drivers have had a course in Eco-Driving, and all have successfully graduated this course and have a diploma certifying same. We expect the Eco-Driving to give us something back, to the environment as it helps us use less diesel fuel for our coaches. The system was certified in October 2004.
